Sheila truly believes food is medicine and our dietary choices impact our emotions, energy, and can even prevent and treat disease. However, you are much more than the food you eat! There are so many different factors that impact health and wellness - Sheila dedicates her time helping clients find balance within their personal and unique lives. This approach is termed integrative and functional medicine - a medical approach to healthcare that aims to treat the root cause of symptoms, rather than treating symptoms on the surface.
What is wellness?
Wellness describes your overall health status resulting from the synergy of both physical and mental health. It is not simply the absence of disease β itβs about feeling your best, too. Your physical and mental health are further broken down.... For example,
Your mental health includes occupational wellness, spiritual wellness, social wellness, and even how much you get out and enjoy nature or abstain from social media. The way you perceive the world, your reactions to life events and your level of mindfulness all impact your health and wellbeing. On the other hand, your physical health includes things like hormonal balance, blood pressure control, weight status, and even flexibility. Your mental health and physical health are equally important and both affect one another.
In essence, your wellness is impacted by many different areas, not just the food you eat and how much exercise you get. Many individuals are not successful in their health goals because they tend to focus on only one or two areas. The reality is that humans are very complex individuals and it is essential to assess every part. Sheila uses a patient-centered approach with clients in order to restore homeostasis β when the body is working in harmony between all parts to achieve exceptional health and vitality. The body has amazing capabilities and can heal itself when all parts are functioning properly. The goal is to look and feel your best!
